A lot of people tend to think that trying to lose stomach fat is simply about dieting crazily and working out a lot at the gym. The thing is, it’s not as simple as that sometimes. When someone gains a lot of stomach weight, it shows—and a person can hurt himself by looking at the mirror and seeing someone he doesn’t really recognize. This is why weight gain (in this case, bulging love handles) causes so much emotional and psychological damage to a person. By seeing yourself as a less beautiful person (caused by those love handles that make clothes look awkward on you), you will think less positively of yourself, dealing a big blow to your self-esteem and sense of security.
There are lots of abs exercises out there targeted to help people with love handles eventually lose them, but a lot of the change should begin from the inside before the physical process should even begin to display the results. A lot of times, people don’t realize that there is more emotional baggage involved than just the physical. While it is good to do exercises for love handles, it is also important to pay equal attention to what is going on inside, as a great mindset can do a lot in terms of motivation and encouragement, which can boost a person’s willpower and determination to succeed.

How do you then gain a great mindset that is fit for the journey?
- See yourself as beautiful
Real beauty is flawed. No matter how much stomach fat you’ve gained, you must constantly remind yourself that your beauty does not come from outside, but from within. There is an amazing person in there somewhere, and you need the confidence and strength to get that person to come out.
- Begin with the end in mind
Know what you want to achieve and stick to it. It is always good to begin a journey with a goal. Write down your goals on a piece of paper and stick it in front of your fridge or computer to constantly remind you of it.
- Keep your eyes on the prize
Naturally, there will be times when you will be tempted to just sit on the couch and eat junk food all day long while you do a 24-hour TV marathon. Remember that at a time of weakness, it is always important to remind yourself of why you are doing this in the first place.
Keep your eyes on the prize, and you will want to move toward it faster by avoiding the things that can slow you down.
